An homage to one of hip-hop’s greatest groups, Under The Influence: The Official Tribute to Beastie Boys will open up at Gallery1988 on Thursday, January 8th. A number of artists were commissioned to put their creativity to work to create artwork which reference and pay respect to the influential group. The list includes The Silent Giants, MCA, Ryan Tan and Eric Hungerford among others. Prints and posters will be on hand for sale on opening night with full signatures from all the participating artists.

Join artists Gary Baseman, Tim Biskup, and Simone Legno for a special evening of conversation and artmaking inspired by the pervasive work of Takashi Murakami. In a panel discussion moderated by Eric Nakamura, publisher and co-editor of Giant Robot, hear how and why artists in Los Angeles are blurring the lines of media to spread their ideas beyond museum walls. Then, participate in a collaborative painting with the artists and a unique performance art experience by Oguri. DJ set; drinks and light fare available for purchase.

Julius Shulman's Los Angeles
Julius Schulman is a brilliant architectural photographer best known for his picture of Case Study House #22. ------>There is an exhibition at the central library downtown where you can see over 150 rarely seen photos.
This is pretty cool too...
"The exhibition will also include renderings of current urban developments underway, so that visitors can compare Shulman’s historic photographic perspectives with images of Los Angeles’ future. "
It runs through January 20, so check it.
The central library is quite magical too.
