the 2 restaurants that i'd like to highlight today are the Nickel Diner and Church and State Bistro. Both downtown, and both of which presented me with delish meals.
The Nickel Diner is basically exactly what it sounds like, but the highlight for me was the biscuits and gravy. Gross, i know. It's basically a puddle of heart attack with a side of starch and i loved every second of it. I'm no connoisseur on the dish but this was pretty fantastic. My dining PIC Katherine got the vegan ranchero which i sampled and loved too. so they definitely passed the breakfast test so now i need to try their dinner...
and speaking of dinner...
everything i had at Church and State was really really good. prawns, a salad, sea bass, and ratatouille.(don't worry i was doing splitzies with someone)
and then came the dessert.
some chocolate hazelnut situation that the waiter described as "if pudding and mouse had a baby" (now you're speaking my language), but the grand finale was the peach and nectarine cobbler.
oh. dear. food god. it was life changing. life changing and topped with house-made vanilla bean ice cream.
climax.
i'm not really a pro reviewer (understatement of forever) but i give both places a "hell yeah".
the service was a little lacking at c&s, but mainly because everything seemed to take forever. in it's defense the place was insanely busy for a random weeknight. make reservations.
