wake up
Wake Up (Where The Wild Things Are version) - Arcade Fire
When the "Where The Wild Things Are" soundtrack details and tracklist were announced many bemoaned the fact that the Arcade Fire's version of "Wake Up" – exclusively re-recorded for the trailer (an "acoustic" version if you will, though only the first half is actually rendered that way) – wasn't on the soundtrack disc or on any digital platforms.
Well, it's leaked. Sort of. We Love You So (Spike Jonze's arts & Culture blog), in tandem with the World's Best Ever, released a 'Wild Things' inspired mp3 mixtape (all one mp3 though, tracks not separated) and the Arcade Fire version is on it. All 1:39 seconds of it. And actually, it's the exact same song you heard in the trailer, same length, etc. (we were hoping their was an extended version somewhere). Also, this mp3 was sent to us about a month ago, because we assumed it was just ripped from the trailer and not the actual version. Nope, it's the exact one in the trailer and the WLYS mixtape.
So, here's the track, but if you've seen the 'Wild Things' trailer with the Arcade Fire song, this is a similar experience only this time, it's like having your eyes closed while the trailer is playing. Enjoy.

reno 911ish
this is old news, but that doesn't make it any less delicious.
tom lennon and ben garant were the guest on Doug Benson's I Love Movies podcast yesterday....and you should download it when it's available because it was a delight.
Two months after he broke the news of his Comedy Central show "Reno 911!" coming to an end, series star/co-creator Thomas Lennon is headlining a new comedy project at NBC.
The network has handed a pilot commitment to the multicamera comedy he will write with Robert Ben Garant, his "Reno" co-creator/co-star and frequent collaborator. The two also will executive produce the project, whose premise is being kept under wraps, with Peter Principato and Paul Young. Lennon will star; Garant will play a supporting role.
Additionally, NBC and sibling Universal Media Studios, which is producing the Lennon/Garant project, has signed a talent holding deal with Lennon that includes his show with Garant.
NBC and UMS moved quickly to lock in Lennon and Garant following "Reno's" August cancellation after a six-season run. "Our entire team has long been fans of the work Lennon and Garant have done on 'Reno 911!' as well as their comedy films," NBC president of primetime entertainment Angela Bromstad said, noting that network brass will look for the duo "to come up with a comedy hit."
Lennon and Garant, co-founders of New York-based sketch comedy troupe the State, have written such features as the two "Night at the Museum" films, "Reno 911!: Miami," "Balls of Fury" and "The Pacifier." The pair, who recently signed a writing deal with Spyglass Entertainment, have several film projects in the pipeline: "How to Survive a Robot Uprising" at Paramount, "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty" and "The Devil You Know" at Fox and "The Incredible Shrinking Man" for Universal and Imagine.

smart move

"It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" cometh to Comedy Central.
The cabler has secured the basic cable off-net rights to "Sunny," which will join Comedy Central's lineup next summer.
FX will continue to air original episodes of "Sunny," which is in its fifth season. FX has already ordered sixth and seventh seasons of the show, keeping it on the air through 2011 -- and eventually adding up to 84 episodes.

Arcadia teen chosen as queen of 121st Rose Parade -- latimes.com
Posted using ShareThis
YES! This is awesome.
I should be all "oooh neato! someone from my city is the queen! hooray!"
but instead i'm all "haha! nice picture! what freak! also, there are really still girls who want to be a rose queen?! isn't it 2009?"
just
a few things i am amused by:
~ regretsy (my friend Carrie sent this. take the time to savor it...it's a little mean because i do love etsy, but i also have a winning sense of humor)
~ last week's season premiere of 30 rock. i can't bring myself to delete it. so genius.)
~ the fact that i still haven't seen where the wild things are. on one hand i've been waiting like 3 years. on another, i have BEEN WAITING 3 YEARS. Good Lord.
~ the new flight of the conchords album. love. those. dudes.
~ the new imac. ho. lee. shit.
go ahead and read this post from Los because i have no words.

i finally got tickets to a Conan taping on November 2nd.
dream fantasy guests:
George Clooney or Ewan McGregor (The Men Who Stare at Goats is out that Friday)
Jim Carrey (A Christmas Carol is too and so what if I'm amused by Jim Carrey?)
Morrissey and Wale both have albums out that week. so...
these are just guesses of course. with my disgusting luck it'll be Cameron Diaz and like Carrie Underwood.

new favorite market
From Tasting Table
The Oaks Gourmet Market
People have always stopped for coffee or a quick sandwich at the corner deli on Franklin and Bronson avenues. But now that it's the Oaks Gourmet Market, it's a bona fide neighborhood hangout. And it's not just for locals anymore.
The shelves are stocked with goods like Rick's Picks pickles, fancy jams and snacks, artisanal chocolates, and wines you won't find in the Gelson's across the street--all hand-selected by owner Greg Morris. And it's the first retail outlet for Heirloom-LA's fresh pastas, sauces and lasagna cupcakes.
But instead of being just a place to grab and go, the market is also a makeshift café. Sit at the communal table and devour fried-egg sandwiches with pancetta and mozzarella ($7) and gooey Cake Monkey butterscotch sticky buns ($4) for breakfast; or wood-fired pizzas or the hearty short-rib French dip with sherry jus ($10) for lunch.
On Wednesday nights, chef Greg Paul creates a selection of special grilled-cheese sandwiches, which might include combos like creamy Cotswold with bacon or tangy Picon with chorizo. On Sundays, look for homemade pastas like lasagna with wild boar Bolognese or pappardelle with pancetta and saffron cream sauce.
The Oaks Gourmet Market, 1915 N. Bronson Ave., Hollywood; 323-871-8894
theoaksgourmet.com
and now for my 2¢:
Holy Mother of God. I got one of the Lasagna Cupcakes that Heirloom makes.
Lasagna Cupcakes dude!

how extra magical and convenient that this place is pretty much next door to UCB.
I am terrified about how much money i'm going to be spending here. when i left last night i said to the owner "see you on tuesday."

sometimes i go to mall concerts
yesterday i went to the newly remodeled Fox Hills mall, which is now asking to be called "Westfield Culver City".
nice try.
good free music was the purpose for the trip though.
if you aren't familiar with Mayer Hawthorne get thee to MySpace.
his appearance is the literal opposite of his music, and i can't decide which i love more. i am a sucker for nerd glasses and preppy sweaters.
check out my stunning blackberry photography:

If you want to see one of the few movies so far this year that is guaranteed to score Oscar nominations get yourself to Bright Star.
Abbie Cornish should be picking out her dress.
It's the love story of poet John Keats and his muse Fanny Brawne, before he died way too soon from one of those deaths that happened way back then....you know Nicole Kidman has a little cough and all of a sudden she's dead.
Honestly though, only Jane Campion can make a scene as simple as two people touching the same spot on a wall from different rooms simply to feel close to each other, sexy and gut-wrenchingly sad at the same time.
Paul Schneider from Parks & Recreation is scene-stealy perfection.
I could go on and on about all of the high points of this film but my words wouldn't do it justice.

BRIGHT STAR, WOULD I WERE STEDFAST
By John Keats
Bright star, would I were stedfast as thou art---
Not in lone splendour hung aloft the night
And watching, with eternal lids apart,
Like nature's patient, sleepless Eremite,
The moving waters at their priestlike task
Of pure ablution round earth's human shores,
Or gazing on the new soft-fallen mask
Of snow upon the mountains and the moors---
No---yet still stedfast, still unchangeable,
Pillowed upon my fair love's ripening breast,
To feel for ever its soft fall and swell,
Awake for ever in a sweet unrest,
Still, still to hear her tender-taken breath,
And so live ever---or else swoon in death.

Hi Wayne. Hiiii.
I am still majorly butt-crazy in love with Wayne Coyne.
i hope i didn't embed the entire episode. just FF to the Flaming Lips at the end.
(if you haven't seen them live my heart aches for you.)
confession: Ice T scares the beejesus out of me, a lot of it is because of that creature he is married to. she's a cross between anna nicole smith/a rock of love bus "contestant"/and one of those std posters hanging in the doctors office.

Road to Perdition

Why was this movie so underrated?
I finally watched it today and it may get 5 Netflix stars.
Part of this is due to the fact that I am mildly obsessed with Conrad L. Hall...
sidebar: i hate how Netflix doesn't have 1/2 stars as an option.
