Radiohead Celebrate New Year With Webcast

Thom Yorke announced that Radiohead will be "broadcasting a pre-recording of some songs and other bits on New Years Eve.." over at Radiohead.tv.

In America (that's us bitches), the live show will be aired commercial-free on Al Gore's television station, Current TV. It premieres at 12 a.m. EST/9 p.m. PST. Current's website will also archive the show, so you can watch it again New Year's Day while writing your resolutions. (Resolution #1: Watch less television.) p.s. fuck you Pitchfork and whoever else tells me to watch less television. I don't go around telling crackheads to stop smoking crack.

the other day my trusty ol' pal julianne told me to take a look at the celebrity playlists on itunes, presumably because she knows i am obsessed with Juno. Jason Reitman, Ellen Page, Jason Bateman and Michael Cera all have one. Hopefully one is on it's way from Diablo.
i hadn't looked at the playlists in a long time, and i'd forgotten how much enjoyment i get out of knowing what songs and why for people i have opinions about that i don't personally know, so i can further judge them.
So now I want to be BFF with Ellen Page even more. i love her reason for liking the Broken Social Scene song "Lover's Spit". I can't cut & paste from itunes so go there and judge for your damn self.

Random movie & music bizness

The SAG nominations came out this moring.

A couple things that bothered me:

1) Into the Wild (which i loved) got noms for 3 of it's stars (which i loved) but then also got an ensemble cast nom. Um Hi. This makes no sense to me. How about giving it to another movie that didn't already get 3 nominations? Not to mention, pretty much the whole movie is emile hirsch by himself. All of the supporting actors are onscreen for an average of 15 minutes.
Why not give it to Juno? Every single person here is flawless in their roles. Jennifer Garner should be getting way more attention here people. That scene where she runs into Juno & Leah in the mall....Uh Maze Zing.

2) No Paul Dano again. What the heck does this poor dude have to do to get nominated? He is scarily good in TWBB. Anyone who can act opposite Daniel Day-Lewis and still make you get goosebumps needs to be recognized. Don't get me started (don't even get me started) on him getting ignored for Little Miss Sunshine.

And...
Oh, and I guess I'm watching the Superbowl this year. They are going to be showing some really good movie previews . I feel like me saying I will watch the Superbowl to watch the ads is like a dude saying he looks at Playboy for the articles. I'm not lying though. I'll watch anything for an Iron Man preview!

As I recover from last nights' Variety screening of There Will Be Blood ( my second time and not my last) and being 10 feet away from Super Genius Paul Thomas Anderson I wonder what I can do to counteract all that hardcore drama....

Whatever. These dudes make me laugh. Hopefully I won't gag like I did in J2.

the lonely island

i missed the movie Hot Rod when it was in theaters and finally just saw the dvd.

you know what? it had some pretty damn funny moments.

even if it isn't the best movie ever, i can't argue with the lonely island. when i first saw their pilot for fox "awesometown" i burned 86,314 calories from laughing. true story.

also worth checking out, the commentary on the dvd. listening to andy, akiva & jorma is as entertaining as "lazy sunday" or "dick in a box". in case you don't care or have been taking up residence in a cave or bunker with no television, SNL would be close to nothing without these 3 dudes.

when i see this:i get as excited as i do when i approach disneyland drive off the 5 freeway. cuz it means - good times ahead.

I also appreciate my BF Philip Seymour Hoffman getting 2 noms. that was so dope. I saw Charlie Wilson's War last night and thought it was great. Why Julia Roberts is nominated is a mystery to me but whatever. Clearly the HFPA has their heads pretty far up their own asses.

Arrested Development (the TV show, not the progressive hip hop group from Atlanta, Georgia)

i am obsessed with Arrested Development, and whilst the notion of an AD movie scares me a little ( in the same way a sequel to Ferris Bueller's Day Off does. like don't fuck with perfection.) i am also intrigued. One reason being, even the not-that-great episodes of AD were totally fantastic, hilarious and more original that everything on tv at the time. and now.

So, it's to be expected that we are going to hear rumors and whisperings of and AD movie, especially when Michael and George Michael Bluth are making the interview rounds to promote Juno. I dismiss the talk and just think "oh jackass reporters have nothing better to ask them" but then i see an article about it on the Paste magazine site and it says "according to ReelzChannel" blah blah blah. Um, that's were I work dude. So there you go. Read it and weep. Or clap. Then you can click the link to peruse the Reelz web-site because it's informative and stuff.

as i've said before i am not a critic and i have a deep passionate love for Paul Thomas Anderson...so I feel like it's not fair for me to tell people how unfuckingbelievable this movie is.
oops, i just said it. the second it ended i felt like someone punched me in the stomach (in a good way. what? that makes no sense. trust me, you'll see). I was stunned and I think the first thing out of my mouth was "Holy Shit". Daniel Day Lewis and Paul Dano are brilliant, as is Dillion Freasier who plays the son of DDL's character was too. He's a 10 year old found in Texas where they were filming. Hopefully this dude keeps acting. I can't say anything bad about one eensy weensy thing. It's about 2 hours and 40 minutes which is frickin' long, but it didn't bother me one bit. Oh, and the score.....totally perfect goose-bump inducing creepiness from Jonny Greenwood! The music almost scared me as much as Daniel Day Lewis, who is a fucking monster. He really kind of makes Javier Bardem in No Country seem gentle.

Remember how earlier today I was excited about Glen & Markéta from the movie Once coming to ReelzChannel for an interview?

There was good reason for that....it was the greatest thing EVER!

Oh my Good God.

First Mary Anne had a great interview and they were SO nice. These are just two people who are so grateful for the success of their film. It's really rad to see that.
And then!!! They did an acoustic performance of "Falling Slowly" to our little room of about 7 people. Let's go ahead and chalk this up as one of the best moments in life.
Sadly Leonard Maltin was waiting to interview them and they could only do one song for us. But they were more than willing to keep singing. ( have i mentioned how nice these people are?)

>I just read on Pitchfork that today is the 25th anniversary of Micheal Jackson's Thriller album. Happy Birthday! Well done?! Congratulations? Yay!
This news makes me feel old because I totally remember my parents playing this album when I was a wee lass and the monster noises from the song "Thriller" scared the shit out of me, but everything was all better when "Beat It" came on right after it was over. I did love the cute picture on the inside of the record! Michael in his white suit and the cute little tiger. Both singer and tiger so young and innocent.

Aimee Mann's 2nd Annual Christmas Show

Last night I went to Aimee Mann's 2nd Annual Christmas Show at the El Rey. Rad is an understatement.
There was a short film shown in three parts with appearances by my future husband John Krasinski, Bob Odenkirk, Fred Armisen, Ben Stiller, and Will Ferrell.
In it, Aimee and the greatest comedian alive Paul F. Tompkins are talking about who she can get to perform at her show. She goes to all the aforementioned people asking them to be her guests and they are all rude and weird a la Ben Stiller as Ben Stiller in the episode of Extras where he is a huge jerk. The end of the film brings her to PFT's door asking him to do the show with her. My description can't possibly do the film any justice. Sorry. The show also included awesome comedian Morgan Murphy as the Hanukkah Fairy, Jackson Browne, Amos Lee, Nellie McKay and Grant Lee Phillips. All fantastic of course....But, Dear Reader, seeing PFT and Aimee sing a duet of "Baby It's Cold Outside" was quite possibly one of the greatest stage moments I've witnessed. Her and Grant doing "You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch" was excellent too. Even though I've heard it a million times "Save Me" will never get old. After the song was over someone yelled out "You should've won the Oscar!!" Amen, Brother. Poor Aimee said she had a cold and was high on Dayquil but I couldn't hear it in her singing voice at all.
I was a little sad her husband didn't show up....Mary Anne and I wanted to hear them sing "Two of Us" from the I am Sam soundtrack. For the record, I like their version of it better than the Beatles version. Yeah I said it.
Can't wait for the show next year.
