20. Star Trek (JJ, you got me again)

I love Radiohead and Current TV

I love this news:
Radiohead Celebrate New Year With Webcast

Thom Yorke announced that Radiohead will be "broadcasting a pre-recording of some songs and other bits on New Years Eve.." over at

In America (that's us bitches), the live show will be aired commercial-free on Al Gore's television station, Current TV. It premieres at 12 a.m. EST/9 p.m. PST. Current's website will also archive the show, so you can watch it again New Year's Day while writing your resolutions. (Resolution #1: Watch less television.) p.s. fuck you Pitchfork and whoever else tells me to watch less television. I don't go around telling crackheads to stop smoking crack.

Michel Gondry bizness

This is a rad article from Wired Magazine on Michel. It talks about the making of Be Kind Rewind...and makes mention of Master of Space and Time.

Also the Be Kind Rewind site posted trailers for the movies that are "sweded" in the film.

I love Michel Gondry.

The End.

Make Room for Bruno

Sacha Baron Cohen tells The Daily Telegraph that he's retiring the clueless Kazakh journalist, as well as his alter ego, aspiring rapper Ali G.

In other news Sacha's 3rd and least popular character (who i happen to love) Bruno should be coming to theaters in the future.

iTunes Celebrity playlists

the other day my trusty ol' pal julianne told me to take a look at the celebrity playlists on itunes, presumably because she knows i am obsessed with Juno. Jason Reitman, Ellen Page, Jason Bateman and Michael Cera all have one. Hopefully one is on it's way from Diablo.
i hadn't looked at the playlists in a long time, and i'd forgotten how much enjoyment i get out of knowing what songs and why for people i have opinions about that i don't personally know, so i can further judge them.
So now I want to be BFF with Ellen Page even more. i love her reason for liking the Broken Social Scene song "Lover's Spit". I can't cut & paste from itunes so go there and judge for your damn self.

Forgetting Sarah Marshall trailer

i like the cast so i will ignore the fact that a couple of my co-workers saw it already and didn't love it. based on this clip, paul rudd and bill hader are fighting for the top spot in my heart right now.

SF Sketchfest

Holy Mother of God.
The boner of all comedy events is happening January 10-27th in San Francisco.
My mixture of excitement and sadness is confusing me right now. Sad since the chances of me going to San Francisco are slim to zero.
Here are some highlights:

Opening Night Variety Show and Party:
Aimee Mann Paul F. Tompkins Todd Barry Rhys Darby ("Murray" from Flight of the Conchords)Hosted by Kurt Braunohler and Kristen Schaal ("Mel" from Flight of the Conchords)

An Evening with Dr. Katz Professional Therapist, and Patients with Maria Bamford, Bob Odenkirk and more. (OMG I LOVE DR. KATZ)

Match Game Live with panelists Mary Lynn Rajskub, Brian Posehn, Maria Bamford, Paul F. Tompkins, Doug Benson, Scott Aukerman and host Jimmy Pardo.

RiffTrax Live: Plan 9 from Outer Space with Michael J. Nelson, Kevin Murphy and Bill Corbett from Mystery Science Theater 3000 Cult classic with LIVE commentary!

Bro'in Out with Seth Morris with guests Adam McKay, Maria Bamford and more.

Freaks and Geeks Speak!Reunion Panel and Q&A with original cast members Dave (Gruber) Allen, Steve Bannos, Linda Cardellini, John Francis Daley, Samm Levine, Busy Philipps, Martin Starr and creator Paul Feig
Moderated by Patton Oswalt
curiously some of the Freaks are too big to make an appearance here, but I still want to go. Bad.

PTA interview

Paul Thomas Anderson on NPRs Fresh Air.

(it starts with a clip of the "Ladies and Gentleman" speech from the movie. I've been quoting this a lot lately. I can't help it.)

click for interview:

Spoiler Alert!
I totally wouldn't listen to this until after you see the movie.

Random movie & music bizness

The SAG nominations came out this moring.

A couple things that bothered me:

1) Into the Wild (which i loved) got noms for 3 of it's stars (which i loved) but then also got an ensemble cast nom. Um Hi. This makes no sense to me. How about giving it to another movie that didn't already get 3 nominations? Not to mention, pretty much the whole movie is emile hirsch by himself. All of the supporting actors are onscreen for an average of 15 minutes.
Why not give it to Juno? Every single person here is flawless in their roles. Jennifer Garner should be getting way more attention here people. That scene where she runs into Juno & Leah in the mall....Uh Maze Zing.

2) No Paul Dano again. What the heck does this poor dude have to do to get nominated? He is scarily good in TWBB. Anyone who can act opposite Daniel Day-Lewis and still make you get goosebumps needs to be recognized. Don't get me started (don't even get me started) on him getting ignored for Little Miss Sunshine.

Oh, and I guess I'm watching the Superbowl this year. They are going to be showing some really good movie previews . I feel like me saying I will watch the Superbowl to watch the ads is like a dude saying he looks at Playboy for the articles. I'm not lying though. I'll watch anything for an Iron Man preview!

Pitchfork released their top 50 albums of the year.
Here's my top 9:
Radiohead- In Rainbows
Arcade Fire- Neon Bible
Justice- +
Spoon- Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga
LCD Soundsystem- Sound of Silver
The White Stripes- Icky Thump
Feist- The Reminder
Death Proof Soundtrack
Juno Soundtrack

The Onion AV Club has their Best movies and Worst movies of the year.
Good choices for the most part.

Last but not least:
Happy Birthday Jonah Hill.

As I recover from last nights' Variety screening of There Will Be Blood ( my second time and not my last) and being 10 feet away from Super Genius Paul Thomas Anderson I wonder what I can do to counteract all that hardcore drama....
Oh yeah, the only available online Jackass 2.5 comes out today.

Talk about one extreme or the other.
Whatever. These dudes make me laugh. Hopefully I won't gag like I did in J2.

Only watchable thru Blockbuster! (they are so desperate to pull people away from Netflix! Good marketing Blockbuster! you've got me this time!)
p.s. knoxville is so hot.
it made me gag like twice and a few times i had to take off my headphones since i am not into listening to other people barf.

the lonely island

i missed the movie Hot Rod when it was in theaters and finally just saw the dvd.
you know what? it had some pretty damn funny moments.

even if it isn't the best movie ever, i can't argue with the lonely island. when i first saw their pilot for fox "awesometown" i burned 86,314 calories from laughing. true story.

also worth checking out, the commentary on the dvd. listening to andy, akiva & jorma is as entertaining as "lazy sunday" or "dick in a box". in case you don't care or have been taking up residence in a cave or bunker with no television, SNL would be close to nothing without these 3 dudes.

when i see this:i get as excited as i do when i approach disneyland drive off the 5 freeway. cuz it means - good times ahead.
also noteworthy:
Danny McBride
Wait til you see him in Pineapple Express. He's pretty magical.

match made in heaven

i couldn't have thought of a better pairing if i tried.

imagine my delight when i came home to my entertainment weekly (it's a surprise to no one i know that my ideal friday night consists of pj's and the new EW issue, and best week ever if it's on) to find that current obsession Diablo Cody is now a contributor! Holy Fantasmic Crap!

other couplings that have brought me this much joy in the past (in no particular order):
-jonny greenwood scoring a P.T. Anderson film
-the beastie boys inviting luscious jackson to their record label
-p.j. harvey singing a duet with thom yorke
-jack black in a michel gondry film
-radiohead and the pixies co-headlining coachella
-LCD soundsystem and Arcade Fire touring together
-fancy designers making clothing and accessory lines for Target
-Fred Eric opening 2 restaurants downtown
-zach galifianakis in a fiona apple video

click for Diablo's EW column

Hollywood soon to be called AbramsTown

Cloverfield could be the worst movie in history or one of the most fun, after seeing the first 5 minutes online i feel like it could go either way.
one reason to go see it fo sho' is Star Trek. the (unofficial) mayor of tinseltown has said that we'll get a teaser on 1-18-08. so there's that.
p.s. the above photo is the doctored poster that i got from comic con. i love JJ peaking out from behind a building. that's courtesy of my fantastic co-worker brooks.

build up much?

Scott Foundas wrote this in the LA Weekly (regarding Oscar contenders and awards season):

As for There Will Be Blood, about which you will be reading much more in the pages of the Weekly over the coming weeks, I will say only this: There are great films (like No Country For Old Men) and then there are films that send shock waves through the very landscape of cinema, that instantly stake a claim on a place in the canon. Often, such vanguard works fail to be fully understood or appreciated at the moment they first appear, as some of the initial reviews that greeted Psycho, 2001 and Bonnie and Clyde attest. There Will Be Blood belongs in their company, and I consider myself fortunate to belong to a group with the foresight to recognize it in its own moment.

rest of the article here

i happen to agree (duh) but statements like that are going to spark debates o' plenty. bring it on.

critics in london are smart

finally some deserving best picture nominations from the London Film Critics Circle!

Film of the Year

No Country For Old Men
The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford
There Will Be Blood
The Bourne Ultimatum

the rest of their selections are on point too. bravo brits. now drink some tea.

the Hollywood Foreign Press Association is lame

the Golden Globe nominations came out this morning.
um, they totally forgot to recognize PTA for best director. Ass Hats.
my favorite part was when Quentin Tarantino was announcing nominees and he expressed verbal excitement for Diablo Cody and Daniel Day-Lewis. In a perfect world Quentin and I would be friends, he'd appreciate my non-fame and we would watch movies together in his screening room.
I also appreciate my BF Philip Seymour Hoffman getting 2 noms. that was so dope. I saw Charlie Wilson's War last night and thought it was great. Why Julia Roberts is nominated is a mystery to me but whatever. Clearly the HFPA has their heads pretty far up their own asses.
I shall stop rambling for now. About that.

Once, again

here's the link to the story mary anne did on the movie "once"
good stuff.

best gun ever

This is one of the raddest things i have ever seen.
I might buy it for myself or as a Christmas gift for someone who, like me, who is a master in the art of time suckage.

It's a marshmallow gun dude!
How can you not love that?
The description says:

Edible Ammo!
Holds 25 Marshmallows for non-stop fun.**
Easy magazine change for fast, non-stop action
Pump action rapid fire, shoots over 30 Feet

It's on sale @

Arrested Development (the TV show, not the progressive hip hop group from Atlanta, Georgia)

i am obsessed with Arrested Development, and whilst the notion of an AD movie scares me a little ( in the same way a sequel to Ferris Bueller's Day Off does. like don't fuck with perfection.) i am also intrigued. One reason being, even the not-that-great episodes of AD were totally fantastic, hilarious and more original that everything on tv at the time. and now.
So, it's to be expected that we are going to hear rumors and whisperings of and AD movie, especially when Michael and George Michael Bluth are making the interview rounds to promote Juno. I dismiss the talk and just think "oh jackass reporters have nothing better to ask them" but then i see an article about it on the Paste magazine site and it says "according to ReelzChannel" blah blah blah. Um, that's were I work dude. So there you go. Read it and weep. Or clap. Then you can click the link to peruse the Reelz web-site because it's informative and stuff.
and go to if you love Arrested Dev might be the best fan site ever.

Ladies and Gentlemen if I say I'm an oil man you will agree.

for a deleted scene from There Will Be Blood go to Little Boston News.
no spoiler alert needed. seriously.

i'm excited for Comedy Death Ray tonight @ UCB because check this out:

also i went to a screening of Run, Fatboy, Run last night. aside from the awkward title i liked it a real lot. simon pegg is a real gem. Thandie Newton is super-cute, but way skinny (bill says it'd be like having sex with a collapsed camping tent! hilarious! and true!)
don't be scared that it was directed by david schwimmer, you guys. and while on the subject of schwimmer he does a really good acting job in the movie Duane Hopwood with HRH Janeane Garofalo.
and finally!
watch this video from SuperDeluxe! Micheal Cera is in it! (sidebar-Michael Cera got 2 critics choice award nominations today!! Superbad & Juno!)

Juno kicks other movies asses

i LOVE this: Juno had a per-screen average of $60,016, one of the best on record for that number of theaters and outperforming the openings of previous Searchlight hits "Little Miss Sunshine" and "Sideways."

WTF Paul Rudd?

i am not sure how i feel about this trailer yet.
i think "yuck" sums it up....but at the same time this feels like it could be one of those BS cutesy chick movies that i love, but am horribly ashamed of loving. ( i.e. a meg ryan/tom hanks vehicle, beaches, steel magnolias).
but then wait, eva longoria is in it. who's brilliant idea was that?
why did this movie happen?

Bjork/Gondry video

i literally have no idea what is going on in this video.
i know there is jumping, paint, and people dressed like Ghostbusters.
more important: it was directed by michel gondry.

Björk - Declare Independence

p.s. i think that is one of the greatest pictures ever. not just of her, but ever.

trailers dude

the Speed Racer trailer is up.
i am not sure why, but i am embarassed to say it looks really fun.

the sex & the city trailer is up too. i care a little because i am a lady, but i am trying to not care because i think it was bad idea jeans to make this movie in the first place.

and finally, the enemy has posted the Semi Pro trailer.
(the enemy is access hollywood)

Post Secret

i obsessively look at the Post Secret blog every Monday morning cuz they post new secrets on Sunday.

Sometimes they are scary or sad like this one:

And sometimes they are funny as shit like this one:

Ferrell sells 'Semi-Pro' with standup

That headline is from Variety.

Will Ferrell will headline seven shows over three weeks in February, teaming with leading standups Zach Galifianakis, Demetri Martin and Nick Swardson. ( OMG OMG OMG)
Event, dubbed "Will Ferrell's Funny or Die Comedy Tour Presented by Semi-Pro," will kick off Feb. 4 in Kansas City and serve as a promotional run-up to the Feb. 29 release of the pic.

Good Lord. I HAVE to go to that. It says east coast which makes me go "DAMNIT! THE EAST COAST SUCKS!" or "ROAD TRIP!"

I am literally fanning myself. Like "Oh My Lawd, I've got the vapors! My oh me, it is wharm in here. Someone make some sweet tea."

Grammy noms

Ugh. i don't give a rats tail about the grammy awards.....except for these few things:

There Will Be Nominations

> i saw There Will Be Blood last night.

as i've said before i am not a critic and i have a deep passionate love for Paul Thomas I feel like it's not fair for me to tell people how unfuckingbelievable this movie is.
oops, i just said it. the second it ended i felt like someone punched me in the stomach (in a good way. what? that makes no sense. trust me, you'll see). I was stunned and I think the first thing out of my mouth was "Holy Shit". Daniel Day Lewis and Paul Dano are brilliant, as is Dillion Freasier who plays the son of DDL's character was too. He's a 10 year old found in Texas where they were filming. Hopefully this dude keeps acting. I can't say anything bad about one eensy weensy thing. It's about 2 hours and 40 minutes which is frickin' long, but it didn't bother me one bit. Oh, and the score.....totally perfect goose-bump inducing creepiness from Jonny Greenwood! The music almost scared me as much as Daniel Day Lewis, who is a fucking monster. He really kind of makes Javier Bardem in No Country seem gentle.

the writer's strike and the D

the greatest band on earth Tenacious D will be performing at one of the strike locations this friday between 12 and 2.
i wish i could go.
Link with Info here!

Juno comes out today. Go see it L.A.

i know, i know...obsess much nicole?

can't help it.

i love Juno!
to further feed my addiction to this movie my super thoughtful co-worker, TV's Gerrad Hall gave me the "dancing elks" school t-shirt seen in the movie that he got from the press junket. i'm wearing it today like a stalker and writing with the Juno pen that looks like a pregnancy test.
this pen might be one of the best movie marketing tools i've ever seen.

it's out today in LA!
go to the landmark theater, the grove or the greatest place on earth the Arclight to see it.

you won't be sorry. and if you are sorry, then you are lame.

watch future Oscar nominee Ellen Page (best actress) speak the LOL words of Diablo Cody ( best screenplay).

Tuesday, December 4, 2007

i'm not made of wood people.

let me preface by saying that i am a straight woman.
but holy crappy balls. these are 2 purty ladies.
this is Megan Fox and Diablo Cody at the Juno premiere last night.
after the writers strike is over these 2 are going to team up for the movie Jennifer's Body.

animated music videos are a party. eyes and ears invited.

I am not a Mika Fan by any means. I do love this video for his song Lollipop though. It's super-dancey and and super cutesy and so cheesy you need crackers. But I LOVE the animation here.
Here's the stash media link for info on the animators responsible.

WARNING: With repeat viewing you might start tapping your feet, moving your shoulders or singing along.

Seth Rogen & Kevin Smith

Here's an interview from MTV about Kevin Smith's Zack and Miri Make a Porno.
I'm still a little pissed about Clerks 2, which was one of the worst movies I've ever seen. (Just thinking about it almost makes me forget how much I love Mallrats, Chasing Amy and all the others) But Seth Rogen. And Elizabeth Banks. Well Done on that casting. Me likey.
They don't start shooting until January so let's read the article and forget about it.

In other news: I'm thinking about changing the name of this blog to "I am obsessed with Seth Rogen and Diablo Cody and Paul Thomas Anderson"
Does that sound retarded?

Pineapple Express clip!

I was fortunate enough to see a screening a few months ago.
This movie rules and James Franco will go down in history as one of the best stoners in cinematic history.

Superbad on DVD today.

Not that I was counting or anything, but a mere 110 days after it hit theaters, one of the funniest movies of the year ( ever? ) is out today.

Go buy it dude.

If you are into Seth Rogen like I am you can see him & his writing partner Evan Goldberg signing copies at Border's in Westwood tonight at 7.

Sadly I can't make it because I am seeing Juno again for the Variety screening. Sweeeeet.

Glen & Markéta

Remember how earlier today I was excited about Glen & Markéta from the movie Once coming to ReelzChannel for an interview?

There was good reason for was the greatest thing EVER!

Oh my Good God.

First Mary Anne had a great interview and they were SO nice. These are just two people who are so grateful for the success of their film. It's really rad to see that.
And then!!! They did an acoustic performance of "Falling Slowly" to our little room of about 7 people. Let's go ahead and chalk this up as one of the best moments in life.
Sadly Leonard Maltin was waiting to interview them and they could only do one song for us. But they were more than willing to keep singing. ( have i mentioned how nice these people are?)

Here's a picture of Me, Markéta, Rube, Glen, & Mary Anne. We are total groupies and I love it.

'There Will Be Blood' soundtrack is damn creepy, awesome

To preview tracks and get info:

:: The Playlist ::: 'There Will Be Blood': Preview Jonny Greenwood's Score; Tracklist Changes

I know I've mentioned this movie and Jonny Greenwood's score already. But I can't help it.
I'm seriously jonesing for some PTA action.

Today's Randomness

>I just read on Pitchfork that today is the 25th anniversary of Micheal Jackson's Thriller album. Happy Birthday! Well done?! Congratulations? Yay!
This news makes me feel old because I totally remember my parents playing this album when I was a wee lass and the monster noises from the song "Thriller" scared the shit out of me, but everything was all better when "Beat It" came on right after it was over. I did love the cute picture on the inside of the record! Michael in his white suit and the cute little tiger. Both singer and tiger so young and innocent.

>Also there is finally news on the Juno soundtrack. Sadly, the physical CD isn't out 'til January but the digital edition is coming out one week from today.

>Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová AKA The Swell Season from the movie Once are coming to ReelzChannel today so Mary Anne can interview them. So exciting. Hopefully I will get to be in the room for their mini performance.

>Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers are doing the Super Bowl Halftime show. I like it.

>Be Kind Rewind is premiering at Sundance. Sweet.

>I ate at this new thai restaurant Nakkara on Beverly (at Spaulding) the other night. It was so yummy. Everyone should go there. The staff was as delightful as the food and decor.

>Is it wrong that one of my most favoritest things during the holiday season are extended store hours? I love this! Target open until 11pm is so heavenly.

Aimee Mann's 2nd Annual Christmas Show

Last night I went to Aimee Mann's 2nd Annual Christmas Show at the El Rey. Rad is an understatement.
There was a short film shown in three parts with appearances by my future husband John Krasinski, Bob Odenkirk, Fred Armisen, Ben Stiller, and Will Ferrell.
In it, Aimee and the greatest comedian alive Paul F. Tompkins are talking about who she can get to perform at her show. She goes to all the aforementioned people asking them to be her guests and they are all rude and weird a la Ben Stiller as Ben Stiller in the episode of Extras where he is a huge jerk. The end of the film brings her to PFT's door asking him to do the show with her. My description can't possibly do the film any justice. Sorry. The show also included awesome comedian Morgan Murphy as the Hanukkah Fairy, Jackson Browne, Amos Lee, Nellie McKay and Grant Lee Phillips. All fantastic of course....But, Dear Reader, seeing PFT and Aimee sing a duet of "Baby It's Cold Outside" was quite possibly one of the greatest stage moments I've witnessed. Her and Grant doing "You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch" was excellent too. Even though I've heard it a million times "Save Me" will never get old. After the song was over someone yelled out "You should've won the Oscar!!" Amen, Brother. Poor Aimee said she had a cold and was high on Dayquil but I couldn't hear it in her singing voice at all.
I was a little sad her husband didn't show up....Mary Anne and I wanted to hear them sing "Two of Us" from the I am Sam soundtrack. For the record, I like their version of it better than the Beatles version. Yeah I said it.
Can't wait for the show next year.
(Youtube has clips from the show last year)
