Mudcrutch

i saw Mudcrutch at the Troubadour last Friday.

Mudcrutch is Tom Petty and 2 of the Heartbreakers, before they started being Heartbreakers.

They have a new album out and I enjoy the crap out of it.

Seeing Tom Petty in a room that tiny was magical and dreamlike. Being shoved 80 times by drunk people who are all stuck together and smelly is the opposite of magical and dreamlike, but such is the price you pay to see a legend at work. He was close enough to make eye contact with most people in the audience and i'm pretty sure he did. What a rad show.

here's a picture of the band from our POV, courtesy of my friend Brooks and his iphone:

left to right: Benmont Tench, Mike Campbell, Randall Marsh, Tom Petty, Tom Leadon

Fun Fact: Keyboardist Benmont Tench plays with the Watkins Family Thursdays at Largo. They've gone on to form a band The Scrolls and are coming out with an album this year. Besides Benmont from The Heartbreakers, The Scrolls members consist of people from Elvis Costello and the Imposters, Nickel Creek, and Toad the Wet Sprocket.
