500 Days of Summer
(i like the middle poster best)
kevin smith talks kevin smith (and seth rogen)
i especially like his extremely nice words about my Fiancée Seth:
''I know I'm supposed to blow Seth about how great it is to work with him; that's the standard. But it's also as true as death and taxes. The guy's a genius. He makes good things better. For his tender age, he's more insightful about comedy and storytelling than most lifers I've met. Movies are in his blood. Mercifully, Clerks had been a big influence on him. Midway through Zack and Miri, I'd felt like I'd made Clerks just so Rogen could see it and wanna work with me one day. For a guy I'd never met till recently, we just understood one another perfectly. Then you add a leading lady who stands shoulder to shoulder with him and earns half the title by being just as strong a character as the guy, and you're off and running.''
Cute, right?
Sidebar:
I have also been enjoying my Fiancée on the talk shows this week talking about his new Green Hornet diet.
On Kimmel he likened watching Jimmy eat a bag of chips to watching porn.
He even made Leno watchable:
David Sedaris, how I love thee...
It's pretty magical.
Especially this:
I don’t know that it was always this way, but, for as long as I can remember, just as we move into the final weeks of the Presidential campaign the focus shifts to the undecided voters. “Who are they?” the news anchors ask. “And how might they determine the outcome of this election?”
Then you’ll see this man or woman— someone, I always think, who looks very happy to be on TV. “Well, Charlie,” they say, “I’ve gone back and forth on the issues and whatnot, but I just can’t seem to make up my mind!” Some insist that there’s very little difference between candidate A and candidate B. Others claim that they’re with A on defense and health care but are leaning toward B when it comes to the economy.
I look at these people and can’t quite believe that they exist. Are they professional actors? I wonder. Or are they simply laymen who want a lot of attention?
To put them in perspective, I think of being on an airplane. The flight attendant comes down the aisle with her food cart and, eventually, parks it beside my seat. “Can I interest you in the chicken?” she asks. “Or would you prefer the platter of shit with bits of broken glass in it?”
To be undecided in this election is to pause for a moment and then ask how the chicken is cooked.

Lorne confirmed it yesterday...
Seth Meyers, who co-anchors the show's centerpiece feature - "Weekend Update" - will be anchoring alone, at least for a while, "SNL" creator/executive producer Lorne Michaels told The Post yesterday.
"He's going to be doing ['Update'] solo for the foreseeable future," Michaels said.

Dream Date:
WWPFTD?
WWPFTD?: Paul F. Tompkins Gives You Much Needed Life Advice
Gentle Readers:
I’m sure you see me on the TV screen and think, “I wish I could talk to that guy. I want to ask him questions and have him tell me how to live my life.” Well, somebody here forced me to make your beautiful dream come true! Send your questions here to me and I’ll give you the best advice I feel like giving!
Just part of my contract,
Paul
Dear Paul F. Tompkins,
My son, who is nine, has never been into sports or guns or typical “boy stuff.” I know it makes my husband a little uncomfortable, but he tries to be as supportive as he can. The other day, my son came to me and said that for Halloween this year, he’s decided to dress as a lady! I’m predicting my husband will freak out, so I’m asking, WWPFTD?
Sincerely,
Kelly T.
Dear Kells:
I like that your son said “a lady” instead of “some broad”. He sounds like a class act, like Michael Feinstein. I can only assume your husband is afraid that your son might be gay. I only say this because your son is obviously gay. So then I’d remind your husband that it’s 2008 and being gay is not a strike against his son, who is his own flesh and blood. Also, if a nine year old boy is dressing like a lady for Hallowe’en, he sounds like a badass. He clearly doesn’t care if other kids might give him a hard time; he’s got his priorities straight. Priority #1: be outrageous. Tell your husband to relax. This kid’s gonna be fine.

Lip Dub IUT SRC Rouen 2008

This elaborate, cool, and totally charming lip dub video of "Thriller" made by French community college students is just about the happiest thing on the internet this week. If you don't crack a smile, you're weird:
If nothing else at least you get to listen to Thriller. Who doesn't like that?

David's Situation
Here is a short bit of the pilot David and I shot for HBO a few months ago. HBO was AWESOME to let us shoot it, and we are the ones who nixed going forward with the show...however-
-We all had such a good time that David and I are working on a new show that will let us kick ass. I put this video up because I think it kicks ass. I know you are missing story here...basically Zach Galifianakis plays an annoying old friend of David's who chances upon his house just when the house is being used to tape an episode of "Good Morning, Predator". Zach's character, LAME, has a shitty song he loves to sing to everyone and he does so here, completely oblivious to the fact that he is being labeled a predator. He's so happy to be on TV, that that is all that matters. It's a funny song, and cool video. Enjoy. (OH, and once again, HBO didn't nix the show, WE did...so don't get mad at them. They are on our side and we're hoping to work with them in the future - hopefully the near future).

Banana Bunker
Get your mind out of the gutter, girl! ( Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight )
This little gadget stays out of the bedroom and is rated E for "Everyone needs one." The flexible, plastic Banana Bunker ($10 for 2) is designed to prevent fragile bananas from bruising and blackening in transit. So simple, we don't know why they didn't think of it sooner.

lautner
the hammer museum had an exhibit that ended yesterday about one of my favorite architects John Lautner.
tickets to tour the above Sheats/Goldstein house sold out weeks ago much to my disappointment.
as we arrived at the museum there were signs on the doors that read "limited tickets available for the Sheats/Goldstein house tour." my heart lept. i was going to Jackie Treehorn's house.
sadly, my mother the extreme photographer nor i had a camera. the above photos were taken with my blackberry.
no words can describe how awesome the experience of being there was.
