food
Cafe Was, you seduced me with your charming interior and bacon-wrapped dates. Your cheeseburger was just ok (and most will be from now on, compared to Umami) and the service was good. You are a little too pricey all things considered, but your super slow rotating piano man was a welcome treat. I'll be back.
and here are 2 places opening downtown soon that i will be visiting for sure:
Syrup Desserts
a dessert bar with couches and crepes and sweet grilled cheese sandwiches. oh hell yes.
BabyCakes
vegan cupcakes. supposedly great, opening their first west coast location. i can't wait to judge them on my cupcake scale from 1 to Violet's Cakes.

another good thing about not having a job:
My grocery store is virtually empty during the day (now). It's like me and 5 AARP members.
They don't seem to mind when I spastically dance to, and sing along with "Good Thing" by the Fine Young Cannibals.
please try to deny the funness of that song. i double dog dare you.

here's another CineMash video with Charlyne Yi and Channing Tatum. Charlyne as Baby from Dirty Dancing is like ice cream on top of cake. He's not too bad to look at either. Who knew this dude had a sense of humor?
and then there's this list from the UCB site that they got from Variety's 10 Comics to watch list.
surprise, most of them are UCBers.

tradgedy of the day
you know you're me when:
you've just spent the last 15 minutes on a massive spider hunt. both the spider and the hunt were massive.
i spotted the asshole on the front door and then just as though he saw me, he dropped to the ground and to run and hide. the heat was on.
the first few minutes was spent weighing my murdering options. (sorry PETA, and those that i can't understand who want to let the bugs live and pick them up nicely and put them outside. what the h? they bite, you guys.)
i opted out of just plain ol' boring squishing and went for the magic bottle of poison under the sink made just for times like these.
the hunting process was made easier with the help of my cat who is closer to the ground and not a GIANT WUSS.
the hardest part was trying to get the cat to stop batting the spider around so i could drown him in evil sauce.
done and done.
then came the post murder victory dance. nothing too crazy because i have a giant headache.
and now back to the mighty boosh.

confession
The view(s) from the roof of the parking structure at the grove is one of my very favorite things ever....
But the people that hang out at the grove make me want to turn into a serial killer.
The end.

HILARIOUS!
I just got this warning from Netflix:
Manic could not be added to your DVD Queue, because you have reached the queue limit of 500 movies. If you wish to add this movie, you must first remove movies from your queue.
I will never ever ever watch everything in my queue. I will certainly die first.
This is so amusing.
So I have to dump some stuff out because I really want to watch Manic. The InStyle article with Joseph Gordon-Levitt quotes him as saying it has "one of the best kissing scenes ever on film" or something like that.
Must. Watch. Soon.

good or bad
who knows if this news is true, but according to Pitchfork (via 42 other sources) the director of the next Twilight movie says Thom Yorke is interested in contributing to the soundtrack.
ummmmmm.
good for Radiohead sales and introducing them to a new generation of obsessive crazypants kids....bad because some people will undoubtedly deem Radiohead (or Thom) "SELLOUTS"!!
i say if it helps spread the word of good music who gives a shit?
there were only 2 good parts in the movie Twilight and one of them was when "15 Step" started playing us into the end credits.

the roots are on fire
i am soooo alone in my late night with jimmy fallon love.
i'm not really alone with my love of the roots though. someone find me a person that dislikes the roots. please.
here's a full list of walk-on music provided by the best band in late night ever. i've already talked about this but i'm not sure that i've mentioned how much i love the LNWJF blog.
I knew when Sara Schafer left the Best Week Ever blog for Jimmy that there were good things to come. Sara kind of rules.

hooray for:
~ outdoor movies at Space 15 Twenty.
Get good food (with shit service) from Snackbar and watch classics like Major League (like I did last night) or Rocky (like they're showing next week).
word is next month they're doing all christopher guest movies. sucks (for me) that they do these on tuesday nights. it's weird cheating on CDR.
~ Tender Greens! 2 more locations are opening! 1 in WeHo and 1 and the Sunset/Vine tower! now all they need is 1 downtown.
~MGMT will be guesting on The Flaming Lips new album. Yes and thank you.
(i have forgiven TFL for the clustermindfucknightmare that is Christmas on Mars)
~ i missed Natalie Portman's Shaved Head at Spaceland the other night but I will see the crap out of them at Bumbershoot.

the dead weather
On the verge of the July 13th (UK/Europe)/July 14th (North America) release of their debut album Horehound, The Dead Weather announce the uncensored Cinemax debut of the short "Treat Me Like Your Mother." The groundbreaking film was directed by Jonathan Glazer, whose credits range from such highly-acclaimed feature films as Sexy Beast and Birth to award-winning music videos for Radiohead. In a rare event, the film will premiere in full in the US on Cinemax on July 11th at 9:55 pm and continue to air on all of the Cinemax multiplex channels for the following five weeks. The short will premiere in the UK on Channel 4 on July 13th at 00:10.
"It was overwhelmingly electric working with Jonathan Glazer on this project, which feels more short film than video," said White. "I've never felt an intensity like I did on the set of this shoot. Absolutely violent, explosive, and poetic."
"Theirs was a beautiful energy to tap in to," explained Glazer. "You can't ask for anything more."
Can't wait to see it? Go HERE to view a trailer and film poster. Check back often for more visuals being revealed prior to the premiere.
