my co-workers and i are in a fierce top 10 list marathon.
see it all started with "my top 10 favorite actors."
This was David's idea and we were all intrigued.
We've gone from top 10 favorite songs to favorite directors to top 10 actresses who (we think) will win an Oscar....and on and on and on.
Right now it's music videos.
Here was my (very edited) list:
Clearly I don't get the concept of "top 10"

Welcome Wilbaer: Stuttgart zoo announces birth of polar bear cub
1 hour ago
STUTTGART, Germany - First Knut and Flocke, now Wilbaer.
STUTTGART, Germany - First Knut and Flocke, now Wilbaer.
A German zoo has announced that one of its polar bears gave birth to a male cub on Dec. 10. Germany's latest high-profile bear arrival follows Berlin zoo star Knut and Nuremberg celebrity Flocke.
But Wilbaer has an advantage over his famous counterparts: his mother, Corinna, hasn't abandoned him. Dieter Jauch, director at Stuttgart's Wilhelma zoo, says Corinna is taking exemplary care of her offspring.
Jauch points to the media frenzy that surrounded Knut last year as the reason the zoo has kept Wilbaer's birth under wraps until now. However, he says the zoo has had the name - a combination of the zoo's name and the German for bear, "Baer" - registered as a trademark.
The cub weighs about 6 kilograms. For now Wilbaer is being kept out of public view - and he is not expected to be on view in the polar bear enclosure until May.

Synecdoche, New York
WILL SOMEONE PLEASE ANNOUNCE A RELEASE DATE FOR THIS MOVIE?
Oscar winner Charlie Kauffman, argubaly the most talented writer in the business today, both wrote and—for the first time—directed this film, which stars Oscar winners Philip Seymour Hoffman and Dianne Weist, Oscar nominees Catherine Keener, Samantha Morton, Emily Watson, and Michelle Williams, and the long-overdue Hope Davis and Jennifer Jason Leigh. Kauffman's films (most notably Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind) are known for their eccentric charms, and this one will probably be no exception—it centers around a theater director (Hoffman) whose life is crumbling around him as he mounts his latest production.

rainn wilson is funny
remember how i was talking about him hosting the Spirit Awards?
one of the things he did during the show was show video of himself "auditioning" for the best feature nominees.
it was amusing, especially the one for Juno.
have you ever wanted to see Rainn Wilson give Jason Bateman a lap dance?
dreams can come true....

Semi Pro
this is an actually email i sent out to friends on February 5th, 2007.
the subject line read SIGHTINGS. AT WORK. JUST NOW.
That’s right. All in the same room together. And I saw it.
Will Ferrell. Rob Corddry. Andre 3000. Woody Harrelson. David Koechner. Will Arnett. Andy Richter.
They are doing a table read for this movie Semi Pro.
Written by Scot Armstrong, the story is set in the world of the American Basketball Assn. and follows Jackie Moon (Ferrell), the owner-coach-player of the fictional Flint Michigan Tropics. Moon must lead his team on a desperate attempt to make it to the big leagues. Will Arnett, Woody Harrelson and Andre Benjamin have already signed up.

Emily and I stalked that room they were rehearsing in and now we are going to the theater to see it. I'm very excited.
Hopefully Jackie Moon is more Ron Burgundy than Ricky Bobby.

The Fall trailer
i'm not sure where in the crap i was yesterday or how i missed this.
it says "presented by spike jonze and david fincher"
UM. boner. yes. I'm listening.
and then, i hear the sexy voice of Lee Pace, my tv boyfriend from "Pushing Daisies"
Sold to the girl with the unnatural red in her hair!
this movie could be a pile like "The Cell" but every single shot in this clip is beautiful and i think i already mentioned that Lee Pace is in it.
not sure why, but the LAME studio took the trailer down. Way to go guys. Nice marketing.

Conversations With Other Women
I watched this movie for the second time last night.
If you haven't heard of it, here you are. If you haven't seen it, get the DVD.
Whether you like it or not, this is a great, groundbreaking and fascinating film.
Aaron Eckhart and Helena Bonham Carter are near-perfect as nameless characters who the credits identify as "Man" and "Woman".
Here's the jist:
the 2 of them meet (you later learn their history obviously) at a wedding and spend the entire night talking.
sounds boring and Before Sunrisey right? Well, it's not.
Here's why:
The whole movie is shot in split screen. Don't let that scare you. It's effective, helpful in telling the story and extremly well-done. So what I'm saying is, even if you are a dude and you hate love story bullshit you can still be entertained here. The love story for me was just an added bonus.
this is from wiki:
Conversations' innovation in split screen is the juxtaposition of shot and reverse shot of two actors in the same take, captured with two cameras, for the entire movie. The film represents a new kind of viewing experience that enlists the audience as a perceptual editor. The filmmakers allow the viewer to choose how they watch the film, following either character or both simultaneously. Seeing both characters act and react in real time lets the audience follow the emotional experience of the characters without interruption.
The rest of the films' Wikipedia page is super-informative and tells you how difficult it was to pull off the split screen thing. There were 117 VFX shots and the initial editor quit so the director had to learn Final Cut and do it himself.
This is the first movie in which Apple Inc.'s Final Cut Pro logo appears in the end credits.
It cost under half a million bucks to make and I am kind of horrified that it hardly got any attention when it came out.

Film Independent Spirit Awards
the indie spirit awards always look like such a good time.
i loved rainn wilson as host! thank GOD sarah silverman wasn't asked to do it again....but then again maybe if she did host she would have had to write some new jokes.
This whatever site has some good details & pictures of the winners and whatnot.
My boyfriend PSH gave the cutest speech ever and so did Ellen Page.
He & Rainn Wilson had a mock-fight throughout the show that ended with them wrestling around on the ground during the closing credits. That was fun.Whilst I worship Once, I am slightly disappointed that 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days didn't win in the Best Foreign Language film category. That shit was INTENSE, and a great movie unlike anything i've seen before.
Film Independent Spirit Awards fun fact:
Eligible films must be at least 70 minutes in length; cost of the completed film, including post-production, has to be less than $20 million.

Glen and Markéta winning best song from Once was my favorite moment of the night. Seriously.
And Markéta got cut off by the evil orchestra before she had a chance to say thank you and jon Stewart brought her back onstage! OMG OMG. Sofa king cute. I was dying. Read all about it here~
and homegirl Diablo was super emotional and gave a surprisingly sweet speech. too bad about that dress though.

Olivia Newton-John
the title of this post might scare you, but it makes me want to type for hours.
let me explain....life sucks. sometimes the only thing that can remedy this (for me at least) is some music. blasting sweet tunage in the car is therapy i can afford and therapy that works.
this morning, tired, upset and with serious stress knots in my shoulders i was driving to work and like i do every morning i hooked up my ipod on shuffle.
lucious jackson's "nervous breakthrough" was a good start. that song just makes me want to roller skate. and then came Olivia. not just any Olivia. not Grease-era Olivia.....dirty Olivia. After she earned her Sandra Dee rep, after her Oscar nomination and performance of "Hopelessly Devoted To You, after Xanadu.
I'm talking about Physical. The 1981 album that my parents had and I remember singing to. Just like the Thriller, I remember unfolding the record to reveal a picture like it were a magazine spread. She was all in white workout gear, sassy headband included. I had to have a headband like that too. Of course back then I had no clue that the title track was basically lil' innocent Olivia turning into super-skankish Olivia. Sort of like when people first heard Genie in a Bottle except that Aguilera never had an Oscar nomination and was always sort of slutty.
Let's sample some lyrics:
There's nothing left to talk about
Unless it's horizontally
whoa dude! she means business!
Physical, despite it's sexytime theme was a huge hit. People were total prudes back then! Don't get me started on the video. It's pure magic. Just watch it.
I'm sure you'll understand my point of view
We know each other mentally
You gotta know that you're bringin' out
The animal in me

MOBY
a lot of people might not agree with me here, but i fucking love Moby.
i used to obsessively read his online journal, then i lost track....and i started again. if i ever get to NY one of the first places i want to go to is his tea shop/cafe Teany on the lower east side.
his is one of the most intelligent and hilarious people and i just want to be friends with him.
i just read that he may or may not be dating Parker Posey, which I am way in favor of. that could be on the 'raddest couple ever' list in my head if it's true.
he & his band are in LA and performing this Friday night. i won't go because i am a loser and i am not into crowds, but i kind of want to.

Andy Dick sucks
last night was business as usual.
by business as usual i mean Comedy Death Ray at the UCB theater.
standing in line for the show is never bad except when it's cold or when i am far back in line and i get panicked that i won't get my seat. last night wasn't too cold and we were in front of the line so i thought the night was going to be pretty smooth, complete with the hotness that is Human Giant.
imagine the horror when my friends and i were met with a PA and a clipboard with releases for us to sign, and at the top of the release it says "YOU DON'T KNOW DICK".
Oh Sweet Lord. Andy Dick is going to be here. The PA actually said "yeah sorry".
So if you see an Andy Dick reality show on VH1 in the future you might see me, covering my face and gasping in disgust in reaction to some fat dude barfing (real barf) on Andy as he stood onstage not being funny.
another reason to hate Andy Dick: he might kind of be responsible for Phil Hartmans death in a way.
this is from wikipedia but i believe it.
Conflict with Jon Lovitz
Comedian and actor Jon Lovitz has long blamed Dick for reintroducing Phil Hartman's wife Brynn to cocaine (after 10 years of sobriety) just five months before she would murder her husband and commit suicide. On July 11, 2007, Dick had a run-in with Lovitz at the Laugh Factory. The club's owner, Jamie Masada, said that Lovitz picked Dick up by the head and smashed him into the bar. Dick had on a previous occasion said to Lovitz he would "put the 'Phil Hartman hex' on you - you’re the next one to die." Lovitz told Page Six, "All the comedians are glad I did it because this guy is an asshole."
BUT...
there was some goodness from the aforementioned Human Giant, including a skit called Kiditentiary.
here's the season 3 trailer. I can't wait to see Will Arnett on HG. that should rule.

Los Angeles, CA (February 19) – The popular movie-review television program “At the Movies with Ebert & Roeper” will join the programming lineup of ReelzChannel®, beginning Tuesday, February 26, 6:30 PM ET/3:30 PM PT (with encore presentations at 8:30 PM ET/5:30 PM PT). Television’s seminal movie-review series will be presented weekly on ReelzChannel, the only cable/satellite network dedicated to “Everything About Movies, 24/7”™.
p.s.
i really miss Roger Ebert, although I do like the revolving critics that are guests each week with Roeper. Especially A.O. Scott (N.Y. Times), Robert Wilonsky, and Christy Lemire (AP). Christy is super cool and married to one of my bosses and on "Dailies" a lot.
p.s.s.
the At the Movies With Ebert & Roeper web-site is great because they have archives with every movie they've reviewed in the last 20 years.

Shots Rings Out has this cool 5 part video interview with Spike Jonze & Kanye West, filmed by the kick-ass Lance Bangs.
"To prove their worth once again, Lance Bangs, Spike Jonze and crew go off the deep-end and into the lair of Kanye West, working on his new video for ‘Flashing Lights’. They talk about all kinds of things that you should be interested in, and you get to a see a milder side of Kanye that I know you have been dreaming about."
fun fact about Lance: he is married to Corin Tucker of Sleater-Kinney and together they have one child, Marshall Tucker-Bangs.
fun fact about Spike: his real name is Adam Spiegel and he is heir to the Spiegel catalog fortune.
fun fact about me: i brush my teeth in the shower.

there will be a 2 disc
Cigarettes and Red Vines says this:
The DVD will be released on April 8th, 2008 on a 2-disc collector’s edition. The cover is very classy; personally, I was hoping they’d use the original one-sheet “bible” poster, but this isn’t too bad either — it’s an image of Daniel Plainview looking down into the oil well, taken from a frame near the beginning of the movie. DDL is credited at the top; in the center lies the title “There Will Be Blood” and directly underneath “written for the screen and directed by Paul Thomas Anderson” and at the very bottom “2-Disc Collector’s Edition”.
cover art should be surfacing in a couple weeks, apparently.

~jason segel is awesome. and he likes to show off his naked body. and i am not complaining.
~i want to go back to hawaii real bad. (the scenery is like a cast member.)
~paul rudd and jonah hill and bill hader can do no wrong.
~mila kunis annoys me.
b ) i'm still waiting for radiohead to announce their tour dates.
c ) on of my BFFs Amy got a puppy. she also has a baby. so here is a picture of one of the cutest babies and one of the cutest puppies ever.

ellen page is taking over hollywood
lil' pagey got cast in another movie.
this one is called "Peacock" and her co-star is the dreamy, pillow-lipped Cillian Murphy from "28 Days Later" and "Batman Begins". (yeah. i said pillow-lipped. i love him dude. although my
friend Andrea loves him more and i don't want to fake-steal him away from her. just borrow him.)
Page has booked three films in the span of a month. She will next star in Sam Raimi's "Drag Me to Hell" and then segue to "Peacock" before taking on the starring role in "Whip It," Drew Barrymore's directorial debut.
(Cillian Murphy rules and I am happy he is getting work. Just so you know, there's this movie he was in called "Intermission" and it was good and he was good. no one talks about that movie and i don't get it. Also, he was creepy as shit in "Red Eye" with Rachel McAdams. I liked that one too.)

V-Day
i am calling it "black thursday" because let's all face it Valentine's Day is lame.
but to comfort myself i will watch this video from the group UTFO.
be warned: it's not even a video. it's just this sexy pic for you to stare at while listening to lyrics like: "and if it happens to get cold we can take a walk down the Yellow Brick Road"
* UPDATE! I am a jackass...if it weren't for the magically delicious taste of Victor the Great I would never have thought of this. This song should be on the Skam Jamz CD dude.
remember when i said Valentine's Day is lame?
well, today's Google picture is really damn cute.

Fancast is my new friend
I just read this on PopCandy.
Sounds like the coolest thing ever.
the jist:
Last month Comcast unveiled the site, which takes IMDB, TVGuide.com and every other TV and film resource to the next level. Here, you can search TV listings; watch films and TV shows; connect with programs on iTunes, Netflix, Fandango and other sites; get recommendations; and more. The site is easy to navigate, and more interactive features are planned.

with Paul Rudd.
Love it.
the name of the movie: I LOVE YOU, MAN.
dude i totally want to hate her because she's with my boyfriend John Krasinski, but i can't. i just want to be friends with her.
i also want to hate because she's so fucking cute. look at that picture. are you joking? who's that cute? she's a halfie, that's why.
and she went to Harvard. yeah. that Harvard. I doubt I could even have a conversation with her.
once i saw her at the arclight. she's so teensy.
i feel like she's prolly nice though.
so yay for her getting starring roles.

PreFabulous
look how cute this is. it's a one-room prefab that you can buy at Design Within Reach at the small price of $44 Gs.
I saw this on the Dwell Blog.
And look at this magic:
The frames are all made out of recycled steel and are completely assembled in-factory with the buyer’s choice of eco-friendly finishes, details, and appliances, including FSC-certified wood floors and solar panels.
Read more about this sexiness here.
DAMNIT i love prefab.

Paramount pushed the release date of Star Trek!
WTF damnit?
Now we have to wait until MAY '09. MAY! Are you kidding me?
Does this mean the poster I got at DorkiCon is worth money now?
this sucks.
( i saw john cho at american apparel the other day. i am such a nerd that in the fake conversation i got up the nerve to have with him we chatted about Star Trek and not Harold & Kumar. i need help.)
Here's the article from Variety.

what comes to mind when i see this 1st teaser for Indiana Jones and Kingdom of the Glass Head:
~ Cate Blanchett looks kind of hot with the Catherine Zeta-Jones wig from Chicago.
~ I fear overuse of one-liners in this movie.
~ this music just makes me want to go to Disneyland REAL bad.
~ i only have 3 months to watch the first 3 movies.

My Damn Channel
My Damn Channel is like a Funny or Die type situation.
There's a show called "Horrible People" which was created by A.D. Miles. You know, from Dog Bites Man. God I miss that show. Kristen Schaal is in it too.
Harry Shearer and David Wain do stuff for this site too, if you're into that sort of thing.

it's as Ann as the nose on plain's face
Will Arnett talks to MTV about the Definitely, Maybe Arrested Development movie.
Wait. Holy shit you guys, if this really happens do you understand how magical it will be? I realize that the movie won't make a shitload of money and that the theater might be filled with me and like 20 other people on opening night, but still. Still.
p.s. when you think about it (or when bat-shit crazy me thinks about it) we may owe some of this to Judd Apatow. I am guessing that it's a lot easier to get this movie made now that Michael Cera is all Famous McFamerson now.
Remember Franklin?
Remember Tobias in the Blue Man group?
For good memories go here. It's the best AD worship site online.
